Buxus microphylla 'Bulthouse' | USDA Zone: 5-9 |
Fast growth rate makes Sprinter Boxwood more desirable than the rest! Sprinter® Japanese boxwood is an improved, fast-growing form of 'Winter Gem'. Glossy evergreen foliage is attractive year-round, and holds up well to winter weather. Upright habit is ideally suited for low hedging and landscaping. Hardier than English boxwood, and without the characteristic odor, too. Disease resistant, including to boxwood blight.
Sprinter® Boxwood makes a fine choice for the outdoor landscape, but it is also well-suited for use in outdoor pots and containers. Because of its height, it is often used as a 'thriller' in the 'spiller-thriller-filler' container combination; plant it near the center of the pot, surrounded by smaller plants and those that spill over the edges.
Sprinter Boxwood is recommended for the following landscape applications;
- Mass Planting
- Hedges/Screening
- Rock/Alpine Gardens
- Border Edging
- General Garden Use
- Topiary
- Container Planting

Height: 24-48 inches |
Spread: 24-48 inches |
Use as a hedge or prune to a variety of formal forms. Create a knot garden or leave as a stand alone specimen around foundations and the back of perennial borders. Thrives in enriched, well-drained, lightly acidic soils. Mulch root zone to conserve moisture and keep roots cool. Protect from drying winter winds to reduce tip dieback. Water deeply, regularly in first growing season to establish root system; reduce frequency once established. Fertilize in early spring. Prune as needed to shape. Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden. Be aware that in our climate, most plants cannot be expected to survive the winter if left in containers outdoors, and this plant is no exception. NOTE: Some flowers and plants may be harmful or poisonous to people or pets if touched or ingested. If you require more information before placing an order, please let us know in advance. |
