Aralia cordata 'Sun King' | USDA Zone: 3-9 |
Sun King Japanese Spikenard features airy racemes of white star-shaped flowers at the ends of the stems from mid to late summer. Its large serrated pointy compound leaves emerge lemon yellow in spring, turning gold in colour throughout the season. It produces deep purple berries from early to late fall.
Large golden compound leaves and a rounded, tidy habit makes this a wonderful woodland accent plant; white flower clusters are airy and visually pleasing; foliage is more yellow-gold in bright sun; deep purple-black berries are not edible.

More About Sun King Japanese Spikenard |
Height: 30-36 inches |
Spread: 30-36 inches |
Flower Colour: White Shades |
Sun King Japanese Spikenard performs well in both full sun and full shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments. This plant quickly forms a large clump of foliage which amazingly resists deer browsing. It reportedly grows just three feet tall and wide, though many plantsmen believe it will grow larger over time. In mid to late summer, interesting racemes of tiny white flowers are produced followed by deep purplish black, inedible berries. Like most Aralias, the flowers attract honeybees. Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden. Be aware that in our climate, most plants cannot be expected to survive the winter if left in containers outdoors, and this plant is no exception. NOTE: Some flowers and plants may be harmful or poisonous to people or pets if touched or ingested. If you require more information before placing an order, please let us know in advance. |
