Salvia is a staple for every sunny garden. It asks little more than sunshine and a little drink every once in a while in return for producing a bountiful mass of colorful flower spires from late spring into early summer. Prefers moist but well-drained soil. Can be divided every 3 - 5 years in early spring. After blooming, cut down to basal growth, as new growth will be more appealing. May flop if given too rich soil or excessive shade. Blooms more profusely with regular watering. Dislikes a spot that is damp over the winter. |
