Columnaris Nana Hornbeam has forest green foliage throughout the season. The glossy pointy leaves turn an outstanding gold in the fall. Neither the flowers nor the fruit are ornamentally significant. The smooth gray bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape.
Columnaris Nana Hornbeam is dense dwarf variety with excellent form and few troubles; columnar habit makes it great for smaller landscapes; takes pruning very well and can make a fantastic hedge.

Columnaris Nana Hornbeam will grow to be about 10 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 4 feet. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 2 feet from the ground, and is suitable for planting under power lines. It grows at a slow rate. Prefers average to moist, well drained soils in partial sun/shade. Requires little pruning if growing as a tree but will respond well to harder pruning if grown as a hedge. Best to prune in mid-winter. Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden. Be aware that in our climate, most plants cannot be expected to survive the winter if left in containers outdoors, and this plant is no exception.
