Canadian Hemlock is primarily valued in the landscape for its distinctively pyramidal habit of growth. It has dark green evergreen foliage which emerges light green in spring. The needles remain dark green throughout the winter.
A delicate and beautiful conifer of the Eastern forests, with soft needles and an open habit of growth, upright and broadly conical, also makes a great hedge; needs adequate moisture, rich, acidic and organic soils and shelter from drying winds.
Canadian Hemlock is recommended for the following landscape applications;
- Vertical Accent
- Hedges/Screening

Thrives under most conditions; best if located in a site sheltered from harsh winds. The graceful habit of this evergreen makes a beautiful statement in the lawn as a specimen or planted in groups as a background. Thrives in well-drained, neutral to lightly acidic, humus-rich soils with ample moisture. Protect from harsh afternoon sun in hot summer regions. Apply mulch to maintain a cool root zone. Water deeply, regularly in first growing season to establish an extensive root system. Fertilize before new growth begins in spring. Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden. Be aware that in our climate, most plants cannot be expected to survive the winter if left in containers outdoors, and this plant is no exception. NOTE: Some flowers and plants may be harmful or poisonous to people or pets if touched or ingested. If you require more information before placing an order, please let us know in advance. |
