Hydrangea macrophylla 'Bailmacseven' |
USDA Zone: 5-9 |
Eclipse® Bigleaf Reblooming Hydrangea, the first true dark-leaf mophead Hydrangea.
With dark purple, almost black leaves, Eclipse® is sure to make an impact in your garden all season long. This new dark-leaf hydrangea will change how you think about and use hydrangeas.
The dark leaves on Eclipse® are as impressive in the garden as they are in the plant world. Eclipse® is the first mophead hydrangea to have dark leaves that will come back just as dark next season.
While the leaves are quite a sight, you can’t forget about the hydrangea flowers! Eclipse® has spectacular cranberry or amethyst-colored blooms that provide fantastic contrast to the dark leaves.
Like other Hydrangea macrophylla, the color of the flowers depends on the soil pH. But in general, Eclipse® hydrangeas grown in alkaline soils will have cranberry flowers, while those grown in acidic soils will have amethyst flowers.

More About Eclipse® Bigleaf Reblooming Hydrangea |
Height: 3-5 ft |
Spread: 3-5 ft |
Flower Colour: Red / Pink / Purple Shades |
Eclipse® Bigleaf Reblooming Hydrangea does best in partial shade to partial sun. You may want to keep it away from hot, dry locations that receive direct afternoon sun or which get reflected sunlight, such as against the south side of a white wall. It requires an evenly moist well-drained soil for optimal growth. To help this plant achive its best flowering performance, periodically apply a flower-boosting fertilizer from early spring through into the active growing season. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments, and will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone in both summer and winter to conserve soil moisture and protect it in exposed location. Soil pH will affect flower color. Add aluminum sulfate to the soil to encourage blue flower color. Eclipse® Bigleaf Reblooming Hydrangea makes a fine choice for the outdoor landscape, but it is also well-suited for use in outdoor pots and containers. Because of its height, it is often used as a 'thriller' in the 'spiller-thriller-filler' container combination; plant it near the center of the pot, surrounded by smaller plants and those that spill over the edges. It is even sizeable enough that it can be grown alone in a suitable container. Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden. Be aware that in our climate, most plants cannot be expected to survive the winter if left in containers outdoors, and this plant is no exception. NOTE: Some flowers and plants may be harmful or poisonous to people or pets if touched or ingested. If you require more information before placing an order, please let us know in advance. |
