Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Gimborn Beauty' | USDA Zone: 5-9 |
Gimborn Beauty Hinoki Cypress produces the graceful spreading branches, attractive reddish brown bark, and large, upright habit of the species. Its color and texture are unique, though. Feathery, blue, juvenile-type foliage complements elegant sprays of typical adult foliage. The combination gives the tree a softer look, which occasional pruning encourages. Eventually, the familiar gray green, scale-like foliage dominates this beautiful alternative to full size, green Hinoki selections.

This shrub does best in partial sun to partial shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments, and will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone in winter to protect it in exposed locations or colder microclimates. |
