| Polemonium 'Heaven Scent' | USDA Zone: 3-9 |
Heaven Scent Jacob's Ladder has masses of beautiful spikes of fragrant lilac purple star-shaped flowers with yellow anthers rising above the foliage in late spring, which are most effective when planted in groupings. The flowers are excellent for cutting. Its attractive ferny pinnately compound leaves emerge indigo in spring, turning dark green in colour throughout the season.
This lovely variety forms a ferny mound of green foliage that has bluish-purple highlights as new growth and is loosely topped with lilac flowers in late spring; looks great in the middle to front of the border and easily mixes with other plants.
Grows best in cool, moist environments with well-drained soil. Provide afternoon shade in southern regions. Keep plants watered during hot spells.

Heaven Scent Jacob's Ladder does best in full sun to partial shade. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. It is not particular as to soil type or pH. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. Polemoniums grow best in cool, moist environments. They will grow in full sun in the northernmost reaches of their zone but prefer afternoon shade in the warmest regions where it grows. Keep plants watered during the warmest months of the season, but be sure the soil is well-drained, especially in winter. Cutting plants back by 1/3 after blooming may encourage sporadic rebloom in late summer. Heaven Scent Jacob's Ladder is a fine choice for the garden, but it is also a good selection for planting in outdoor pots and containers. With its upright habit of growth, it is best suited for use as a 'thriller' in the 'spiller-thriller-filler' container combination; plant it near the center of the pot, surrounded by smaller plants and those that spill over the edges. Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden. Be aware that in our climate, most plants cannot be expected to survive the winter if left in containers outdoors, and this plant is no exception. NOTE: Some flowers and plants may be harmful or poisonous to people or pets if touched or ingested. If you require more information before placing an order, please let us know in advance. |
