Katsura Tree is primarily valued in the landscape for its ornamental upright and spreading habit of growth. It has bluish-green deciduous foliage which emerges burgundy in spring. The heart-shaped leaves turn an outstanding orange in the fall. The shaggy brown bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape.
A truly refined tree with a tight pyramid shape and superb spring and fall foliage colors; very neat and tidy tree, good choice for larger home landscapes, can grow quite large; fallen leaves emit a delicious caramel fragrance in autumn.

Katsura Tree does best in full sun to partial shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. It is particular about its soil conditions, with a strong preference for rich, acidic soils. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution, and will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone in winter to protect it in exposed locations. Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden. Be aware that in our climate, most plants cannot be expected to survive the winter if left in containers outdoors, and this plant is no exception.
