The King Male Fern is primarily valued in the landscape or garden for its cascading habit of growth. Its twisted ferny compound leaves remain green in colour throughout the year.
Graceful, arching fronds with curiously twisted foliage, each leaflet divided at the tips; attractive fiddleheads unfurl in spring; keep evenly moist, provides habitat and shelter for birds and bees.

The King Male Fern does best in partial shade to shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. It is particular about its soil conditions, with a strong preference for rich, acidic soils. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone over the growing season to conserve soil moisture. Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden. Be aware that in our climate, most plants cannot be expected to survive the winter if left in containers outdoors, and this plant is no exception.
