Hansa Rose is draped in stunning fragrant violet flowers with fuchsia overtones and yellow eyes at the ends of the branches from early to mid summer. The flowers are excellent for cutting. It has dark green deciduous foliage. The oval compound leaves turn an outstanding orange in the fall. The fruits are showy red hips displayed from mid to late fall. The spiny brick red bark adds an interesting dimension to the landscape.
An old-fashioned hardy shrub rose, smothered in fragrant double reddish-purple flowers in early summer, repeat-blooming; tall upright habit, hardy and resistant to disease; this rose needs full sun and well-drained acidic soil.

Hansa Rose should only be grown in full sunlight. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. It is not particular as to soil type, but has a definite preference for acidic soils, and is subject to chlorosis (yellowing) of the foliage in alkaline soils. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. Ideal to integrate into shrub or mixed borders for solid, long-season color without additional care. Makes a fine addition to south and west facing foundation beds. Use in the back of perennial borders to intensify season long color. Plant in irregular groupings for a large scale cover that blocks weeds. Great in pairs to flank an entry, steps or gate. Plant en masse to create a low, semi-formal hedge or to clean up unattractive paving edges around porches and patios. Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden. Be aware that in our climate, most plants cannot be expected to survive the winter if left in containers outdoors, and this plant is no exception.
