Abies koreana 'Ice Breaker' | USDA Zone: 4-9 |
Ice Breaker Korean Fir stunning dwarf selection with amazing year-long color; recurved green needles display their shimmering, silvery white undersides, creating a striking effect in the garden; young plants are globose, later developing a leader, becoming a small, squat tree.
Ice Breaker Korean Fir became an overnight sensation after its discovery as a mutation growing on Horstmann’s Silberlocke Fir and is sought for its stunning contribution to the garden! Two-toned needles recurve up and around their stems to expose a bright white, waxy underside of the green needle. Slow growing with a rounded form when young, it may eventually mature into a broadly pyramidal small tree.
This spectacular, colorful dwarf won the distinction of the American Conifer Society‘s 2014 Conifer of the Year.

More About Ice Breaker Korean Fir Std. |
Height: 2 ft |
Spread: 3 ft |
Icebreaker Korean Fir will grow to be about 3 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 4 feet. It tends to fill out right to the ground and therefore doesn't necessarily require facer plants in front. It grows at a slow rate. Icebreaker Korean Fir does best in full sun to partial shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. It is not particular as to soil pH, but grows best in sandy soils. It is quite intolerant of urban pollution, therefore inner city or urban streetside plantings are best avoided, and will benefit from being planted in a relatively sheltered location. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone in winter to protect it in exposed locations Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden. Be aware that in our climate, most plants cannot be expected to survive the winter if left in containers outdoors, and this plant is no exception. NOTE: Some flowers and plants may be harmful or poisonous to people or pets if touched or ingested. If you require more information before placing an order, please let us know in advance. |
