Magnolia x loebneri 'Merrill' | USDA Zone: 4-9 |
Merrill Magnolia is bathed in stunning fragrant white star-shaped flowers with yellow eyes at the ends of the branches in mid spring before the leaves. It has dark green foliage throughout the season. The pointy leaves turn coppery-bronze in fall. The fruits are showy pink pods displayed from early to mid fall.
This is a relatively low maintenance multi-stem or single stem tree, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers. Deer don't particularly care for this plant and will usually leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. It has no significant negative characteristics.

More About Merrill Magnolia |
Height: 20-25 ft |
Spread: 25-30 ft |
Flower Colour: White Shades |
Merrill Magnolia will grow to be about 25 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 30 feet. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 5 feet from the ground, and is suitable for planting under power lines. It grows at a medium rate. Merrill Magnolia does best in full sun to partial shade. It requires an evenly moist well-drained soil for optimal growth, but will die in standing water. It is not particular as to soil type, but has a definite preference for acidic soils. It is quite intolerant of urban pollution, therefore inner city or urban streetside plantings are best avoided. Consider applying a thick mulch around the root zone in winter to protect it in exposed locations. Note that when grown in a container, it may not perform exactly as indicated on the tag - this is to be expected. Also note that when growing plants in outdoor containers and baskets, they may require more frequent waterings than they would in the yard or garden. Be aware that in our climate, most plants cannot be expected to survive the winter if left in containers outdoors, and this plant is no exception. NOTE: Some flowers and plants may be harmful or poisonous to people or pets if touched or ingested. If you require more information before placing an order, please let us know in advance. |
